MAYFLOWER BOCAWINA NATIONAL PARK
Reserve with 3 marked routes to waterfalls, numerous streams and easily accessible trails
The attraction of this reserve lies in its miles of marked trails; there are three signposted routes from the park's "central square", each leading to one of the waterfalls beneath a dense tropical canopy. The many streams present ensure a constant presence of wildlife: patient visitors may catch a glimpse of many inhabitants during a break near the streams, including numerous birds (as elsewhere, mammals have learned to be wary of human presence...). While the trails can be considered easily accessible by some (notably the Bocawina Hill Trail), it may be advisable to hire the services of a guide to reach the more remote and impressive waterfalls (Antelope Falls), as well as the ruins buried in the forest. There are three waterfalls accessible from the base: Bocawina falls, Three Sisters and the best-known and most popular among hikers, Antelope falls. Certified guides can be contacted in the village of Silk Grass (✆ +501 523 7268 / [email protected]). A nice touch for adventurers: there are camping areas in the park where you can pitch your tent. This allows you to sleep as close as possible to the animals, and gives you a small chance of spotting a Jaguar in the evening. Those wishing to indulge in a few sporting activities can contact the Bocawina Resort, which offers zip lines through the forest and abseiling from the top of waterfalls.
