GULBARGA STRONG
Fort built in 1357, a good example of the Islamic architecture of the time, encircled by a canal and featuring numerous monuments
This fort built in 1357 by Raja Gulchand, then fortified by the Bahmani dynasty, is a good example of the Islamic architecture of the time. The fort, encircled by a canal, is extensive and contains several interesting monuments. The great mosque, Jama Masjid, was built in 1367 and displays Persian influences. One can also see the tomb of a Sufi saint, Kwaja Bande Nawaz, dating from 1417. At the time of our visit, hundreds of buffaloes were taking the cool in the waters of the moat. A good idea to visit on the road between Vijayapura and Bidar.
