ALARA
Alara means "everything is possible" in Yoruba, and this positivist mantra is visible even in the architecture of the gallery, a monumental elevation that pushes us to aim for the summits, designed by the Ghanaian architect David Adjaye. Opened in 2015 by Nigerian Reni Folawiyo, who lives between London, Lagos and New York, this concept store focuses on haute couture and exhibits creations from Saint Laurent, Valentino or Louboutin, art and many gadgets, jewellery or perfumes from Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya and many other high places in the African hype. The establishment is thus one of the beating hearts of Lagos Fashion Week, during which it receives all the best Nigerian and international fashion professionals. Each object has its own history and unique style, while Fela Kuti animates the atmosphere with a committed background sound. A rooftop is used for temporary exhibitions or film screenings and has recently been used for... yoga classes!
