BOGOBIRI HOUSE
One of Lagos' cultural landmarks, to attend an Open-mic evening, a jazz or reggae concert, or to meet the contemporary Lagos arty scene. Two young Lagossians, Chike and Tola, opened "le Bogo" for close friends in 2003. Initially an art gallery - go upstairs to see the Nimbus Gallery - the project gradually evolves into a hotel, then into an open stage as the oxen evenings progress, before hosting a library, a pocket craft centre and many events hosted by the artistic community that has gradually taken over the place. This cultural bubbling is inscribed even in architecture, an association of various living spaces loaded with colours and works of art - paintings, sculptures, street-art, statues - exposed from walls to ceilings. Today, the most diverse artistic projects are hosted in the Bogobiri, from poetry evenings to debates on depression or cybersecurity. On the agenda recently: game night on Monday evening, open-mic on Thursday, contemporary African music concert on Friday, and reggae evening on the last Saturday of the month. Nigerian and continental menus, but it is better not to be in a hurry.
