TWO STOREY BUILDING
The white house with its grey shutters and tin roof, separated by the seasons from the successive rains, is made entirely of wooden planks, which let the day pass under your feet once you climb the famous second floor, to which you can access by an outside staircase. The signs detail the life of Reverend Henry Townsend, who landed in Nigeria after a visit to Sierra Leone and who was to be at the origin of the first Christmas celebrated in the country, in Badagry.
Built in 1845 by Anglican missionaries under the direction of Reverend Gollmer, it will house the teacher of the first primary school built by the mission, before the Reverend and former freed Nigerian slave, Samuel Ajayi Crowther, who will be the first to translate the Bible into Yoruba, a copy of which can be seen in one of the rooms.
