OSOGBO ATAOJA PALACE
Don't expect a palace! This one-level structure painted in pink and with a tin roof does not look good, and is in fact the main building housing the temple adjacent to the palace, while the latter is a common modern structure a little flashy in white and blue. The palace itself cannot be visited, but the temple is not uninteresting, especially if you meet the priestesses. The walls are all decorated with psychedelic drawings in pink, black and white, supported by wooden pillars and in the centre, the devotees are praying around a wooden statue with many disturbing heads: the god of epidemics. If you ask the devotees for a prayer, give them something afterwards as a thank-you. They will then sing to accompany you with the ringing of their bells, a prayer chanted by which you will answer "Ashe", like an amen of approval.
Outside the temple towards the palace, statue of the 1st Ataoja who founded the city 600 years ago, the Ataoja Kinni. The current king, Jimoh Oyetunji, welcomes you to his house "Eka Aabo si".
Around the palace, pretty markets with beautiful colorful stalls.
