NIKE'S DYE SHOP
Everything you always wanted to know about batik but never dared to ask! Let one of the craftsmen guide you. The outdoor workshop is quite large, with a first covered part where about ten craftsmen draw on the fabric, using large "crayons" of foam (or cock feathers), heated wax graphics. Once these pastiches are applied to the large wool dyes, they are dyed before being dried in the sun.
The garden that follows the workshop thus welcomes a whole series of stone basins in which indigo baths soak. 40 minutes of bathing is enough, and you will then see the multicoloured fabrics spread out in the grass in good weather. It takes about two weeks of work for 5 yards of fabric, depending on the complexity of the wax design. The latter is replaced by starch in other workshops. About fifty craftsmen attend Nike's dyeing workshop.
