ARUOSA CATHEDRAL
The very first church in the country, it seems! The site has thus hosted a place of worship since the 15th century, a sumptuous period of the Beninese Empire that saw the first arrivals of Portuguese settlers, arriving with their batches of missionaries who came to evangelize the region. Original building whose age can be seen, all in wood and painted in the sacred colours of Benin: the very low central body all in white, overhung by a triangular orange-red roof - the same colour as the Oba necklaces. The interior is accordingly white wood with many side pillars and bronze coats of arms above the hotel, symbolizing the Edo Empire. It is still here that royalty meets for its official religious celebrations, in very lively cults.
