TRANSCORP HILTON
The Abujans from the beginning will tell you "at first, there was only the Hilton". It was one of the only hard buildings, then the only place to come for a swim, a glass of wine or just a coffee. The central hotel has thus witnessed the city's rapid evolution, maintaining its status as a business and social hub. A little like the Eko Hotel in Lagos, nothing happens in Abuja that doesn't happen at the Hilton: from almost weekly receptions of embassies for their "National Day" to theatre performances, not to mention international conferences, and not to mention the wild evenings at the Jamrock where all the young people of Buenos Aires and expatriates flock. Its iconic hexagon-shaped swimming pool, lined with palm trees aiming at the sky and decorated with the hotel's distinctive ochre and unbleached architecture, is a major part of the establishment's timeless character. In addition to all the facilities of a high-end hotel, the Hilton offers bright and spacious rooms with city views and elegant bathrooms with marble furniture. The entrance hall regularly hosts exhibitions of local crafts, and you will find a modest craft centre below the pool. Sunday brunch at Bukka Restaurant is one of the most extensive in the city, Zuma Grill offers a beautiful menu of French and European dishes while the pool glacier is very popular with regulars. To enjoy this setting and enjoy the atmosphere of the place, you can simply pick up suyas at the Fulani Bar of the pool, or come swimming for a ticket at 3,000 NGN.
