NATIONAL MOSQUE
One of Abuja's iconic monuments, whose imposing stature of the golden dome framed by its four white turrets appears on many panoramas of the city. One does not play with symbols in Nigeria, and it is said that the size of the turrets is to the nearest centimetre that of the central pillar of the cathedral, which stands symmetrically on the other side of the two avenues, Constitution and Independence. Built in 1984, the building appears even more imposing since the large square with its ochre tiles. The very large door of blue and green, surrounded by verses of the Qur'an inlaid with calligraphic letters, only adds to the majesty of the gold leaf dome. Separate entrances for men who can walk around the ground floor, all lined with red and white, and for women who will observe the panorama from the first floor, under the colonnades.
