Natural site of great geomorphological interest in Montagna.
From the end of the last Ice Age, 15,000 years ago, the Bletterbach torrent began to carve out this 8 km-long canyon, reaching depths of 400 metres in places. Erosion gradually revealed geological strata and fossils of plants, molluscs and saurian footprints. A site of great geomorphological interest, which earned it Unesco World Heritage status in 2009. A visit to the Visitor Centre is a good introduction before setting off to explore this natural heritage.
