MOTHE CASTLE
Ruins of a remarkable castle in the pretty village of Arvier.
The pretty village of Arvier is dominated by the Château de la Mothe, located in the middle of the village. It was named after Aymar de la Mothe, who came here in the 13th century to marry the heiress of the d'Arvier family, vassals of the Counts of Savoy. Today, all that remains is a square tower and the ruins of defensive walls and a round tower, but the site cannot be visited. However, it is possible to wander through the village's narrow streets, which wind from the church through the old houses to the main street below.
