RANDONNÉE AU COL DE MALATRA

This route is part of Haute Route^no. 1 (Alta Via 1 - AV1). From the village of Saint-Rhémy-en-Bosses, cross the torrent du Grand-Saint-Bernard, then follow the dirt road for around 100 m. Turn right onto the wide path that climbs towards Laval, then take the asphalt road through the small villages of Couchepache and Mottes. After a short descent, turn right onto the dirt track that runs under the freeway and continues on level ground to the Devies mountain pasture. Shortly afterwards, turn right onto the path surrounded by low dry-stone walls, which climbs through pastures to the Merdeux Inferiore mountain pasture; from here, follow a short stretch of dirt road to the Côtes mountain pasture. Follow the path halfway up the slope to the Moindraz mountain pasture. You'll cross large, beautiful green pastures before reaching the Tsa de Merdeux alp. After crossing some picturesque little streams and climbing a relatively steep, grassy slope, you reach the Lac Merdeux plateau. From here, the route rises sharply, reaching a detrital combe bypassed by a rocky ridge. After crossing the combe, follow a long diagonal to the left. After a few narrow switchbacks, you finally reach the last steep, rocky section of this itinerary, which takes you to the Col de Malatrà.
