VISIT TO THE HIGH TENO

Visit by car or on foot to discover the heights of Teno
Two ways to get to the heights of Teno:
All aboard. From El Palmar, a small road goes up to the hamlet of Teno Alto, one of the most Canarian places on the island. Not far away, we will probably see herds of goats, and a conical hill entirely covered with cultivated terraces. We can go down to the coast. The runway passes by a small field of rudder. In the ditches nest thistles of a sumptuous purple. The sea is 500 m lower, turquoise in places, or green with algae. From the top of the cliff, the view stretches, dizzying, between Los Gigantes and the tip of Teno. Entirely black, it stands out on the sea like an imaginary land.
On foot. You can also reach Teno Alto on foot, by a beautiful hike from Erjos. We cross the small marshes before climbing through the forest of laurel trees. Then we reach the ridges, which we'll follow all the way to Teno Alto. We come out of the forest abruptly and find ourselves on the bare ridge. To the left, south-westwards, arid peaks appear, between which secret barrancos reach the sea. We recognize Masca and the Carrizales. The path crosses the Masca-El Palmar road in a twist over Carrizal Alto and then continues along the ridge. Turning around, you get a view of the ridge line, which oscillates at nearly 1,000 m; contrast between the northern slope covered with a green laurisylva and the southern slope, streaked with clearly visible dykes, almost naked except for a few agave trees standing up to the sky.
