RESERVA BIOLÓGICA HUILO
A mystical and enchanting private reserve with lush vegetation, waterfalls and various sections.
In the heart of the temperate rainforest of the Andes, this reserve covers some 100,000 hectares. It's a private reserve that's both mystical and enchanting: here, waterfalls stand side by side with remarkably lush vegetation. Criss-crossed by numerous lakes and streams, Huilo Huilo offers spectacular scenery and a variety of ecosystems. From temperate rainforests to high-altitude grasslands and volcanic zones, you'll find that the area is home to a wide variety of animal species. Among the most notable species are the huemul (in danger of extinction), the pudu (the world's smallest deer), as well as pumas, foxes, condors and various endemic bird species. The vegetation consists mainly of forests of Nothofagus, a type of southern beech, and other plants typical of rainforests. The reserve comprises different sections: Portal del Puma, Portal Llallalca, Portal Huilo Huilo (a spectacular 37 m-high waterfall), Portal La Leona and Portal de los Ciervos, where you can admire huemuls in the wild and visit the fascinating Museo de los Volcanes to learn more about Chile's root peoples. Take the opportunity to raft the rapids of the Fuy River and visit the Liquiñe hot springs: you'll bathe in volcanic waters that reach up to 90°C, but cool down on contact with the Rayintulelfu River.
