HUNTLY CASTLE
Huntly Castle is a ruined castle, known for its beautiful architecture, lush green surroundings and eventful history. It was built around 1190 by the Earls of Fife at the junction of the Bogie and Deveron Rivers, but it was the Gordon family who appropriated the place around 1300, renamed it and developed it. It went from a motte and bailey, to a tower-house, and then to a majestic stone building. It is remarkable for its heraldic sculptures and carved stone friezes, its French-inspired southern front and its imposing fireplace.
