This early th century manor house was designed and built by William Adam (recognized by some as the father of Scottish architecture and masterpiece of the new city of Edinburgh). The different parts of the residence are delimited according to their role: on the one hand, food; the other, servants and children; in centre, lords, ladies and staff. Italian gardens are due to James Giles.
