OSSOU DAM
The dam can be reached via an asphalt road through dense bushes, papaya trees, cheese trees, cocoa and coffee fields.
Built on the White Bandama, this dam rises to a height of nearly 60 metres and is 1,500 metres long. It required the placement of 2,810,000 m³ of fill, 2,324,000 m³ of riprap and 60,000 m³ of concrete. The work, begun in 1969 and completed three years later, was co-financed by the Ivorian government, the United States and Canada. The efforts mobilized to accomplish this technical feat were hailed at the inauguration of the dam on November 18, 1972, in a message from President Nixon.
