Small urban nucleus housing a parish church of Sant Martí d'Aiguafreda with a decorated nave and apse
At the western end of the Montseny massif, this small urban nucleus is the old centre of Aiguafreda, presided over by the parish church of Sant Martí d'Aiguafreda, its presbytery and some old stone houses. The church was consecrated in 898 by the Bishop of Vic at the request of his niece, daughter of the Count of Barcelona. Of its original construction remains a nave topped by a barrel vault and an apse decorated on the outside with a series of blind arches and Lombard bands. In the 19th century, it lost its parish status to the church of Santa Maria, built in the Ferreries district. From Aiguafreda de Dalt, walkers can go to to the Martinet valley to the north, or the Avencó valley to the south, two very pleasant river routes.
