TORRE DE TELEGRAFIA ÒPTICA DEL PUIGGRACIÓS
Optical telegraphy line with a panoramic view in Figaró-Montmany connecting Vic to Barcelona
In 1833, with the death of Ferdinand VII, the Spanish monarchy was once again shaken by a political crisis. The infant Charles de Bourbon (1788-1855) is deprived of the Spanish throne by decision of the king who designates his daughter Isabella II as heiress, thanks to the abolition of the Salic law. A civil war ensued - divided into three stages - between the defenders of Charles de Bourbon and the supporters of Isabella II. It was in this context of the Carlist Wars that Catalonia equipped itself with an innovative optical telegraphy network that would revolutionise the means of communication. The Torre de Puiggraciós, built around 1845 on top of a hill, was part of the optical telegraph line linking Vic to Barcelona. One goes up there to admire the panoramic view of the Vallesana Valley, the Congost, the Montmany Valley and the cliffs of Bertí.
