Sanctuary at 186 m above sea level in Vilanova del Vallès with a monumental complex
Following the Passeig de Santa Quitèria, which runs through the urbanisation of Barri Rodes, you will arrive in a few minutes at the site of this monumental complex made up of several buildings (leave your car in the mud car park), namely the masia or presbytery, a beautiful building enveloped by vegetation, the parish cemetery and the charming church of Sant Esteve. At 186 metres above sea level, the sanctuary of Santa Quitèria rises on top of a hill integrated into the crest line of the mountain range that rises to the east of the river Mogent. Opposite the church is a charming, intimate square with a view of the Montseny massif, the reliefs of Sant Llorenç del Munt, the mountains of Montserrat and the peak of Puigmal, the second highest peak in the Eastern Pyrenees. After admiring the view, linger for a moment in front of the small church dedicated to Sant Esteve. A centuries-old witness, it combines three architectural styles, with its Romanesque base and bell tower of Lombard influence (the upper part was rebuilt from 1574 following an earthquake), its central nave and Gothic altar, and finally, its Renaissance façade. The oldest mention of the church dates back to the year 993, while the side chapels were annexed during the 16th and 17th centuries. Several festivities take place in the sanctuary of Santa Quitèria, including Easter Monday.
