BEELITZ-HEILSTÄTTEN & BAUMKRONENPFAD
A huge sanatorium housing tens of thousands of patients suffering from tuberculosis and other lung diseases.
This huge sanatorium, built in the middle of the forest between 1898 and 1930, was home to tens of thousands of patients suffering from tuberculosis and other lung diseases. Partially damaged by the fighting at the Battle of Berlin, the site saw trees creeping between the remains and reaching up to the roofs of the various buildings. A 23-metre-high trail allows visitors to wander between the treetops and appreciate the ruined buildings.
