Dating from the5th century, the Geku (outdoor shrine) is dedicated to Toyouke-no-Omikami, the goddess of food, clothing and home as well as industry in the Shinto religion. The abundant flora that surrounds the site covers about 89 hectares. The priests of the Geku make daily offerings of rice to the Geku deity, who is, in fact, in charge of feeding Amaterasu-Omikami, the neighboring goddess of the Naiku. It takes about ten minutes to walk to the main building, also called Goshoden.
