True architectural vestiges of a bygone era, these residences, called Gojoban Yashiki, were home to the samurai warriors of the Kishu domain, whose mission was to protect the city's castle at the end of the Edo period. They were designated as an important cultural property of the country and are still inhabited today. One of them, maintained by the city, has been open to the public since 1990. The houses, which are particularly well preserved, are in rows, of the same design and have a private garden.
