The Shirahige-jinja shrine was founded 1900 years ago. It has become one of the emblems of Shiga Prefecture thanks to its giant torii floating on Lake Biwa, only a few meters from the shore. The main hall of the sanctuary, considered a nationally important Cultural Property, is worth a visit, but it is overshadowed by the main attraction represented by the vermilion gate. It is advisable to go there early in the morning to perhaps get a chance to see the sunrise between the torii. The instagram spot par excellence!
