Founded in 1361 by the lord of Omi province, Sasaki Ujiyori, and the monk Jakushitsu Genko, this Zen Buddhist temple is part of the Rinzai school. Due to the monk's reputation as an eminent Zen master, over 2000 ascetics are said to have visited here. Today, the temple is famous for its location along the Echi River, and for its beautiful autumn leaves. To get there, you have to walk along a path lined with maple trees, which form a red tunnel at this time of year.
