MONASTERO SAN PIETRO DI SORRES
One of the most beautiful examples of Romanesque art visible at the entrance to the village of Borutta
Visible at the entrance to the village of Borutta, the abbey church of the Benedictine monastery San Pietro di Sorres is one of the most beautiful examples of Romanesque art. It was built along the historic road that linked the north of the island to the south. Tombs from the Byzantine period and a nuraghe have been found near the site. The limestone exterior conceals a richly decorated interior, with pillars alternating white limestone blocks and black lava stone.
