LA VIERGE D'ALSACE
Sculpture representing the iconography of a Virgin and Child overlooking Niederbruck, a strong symbol of the valley, worth a visit.
Overlooking Niederbruck, its benevolent gaze has become a strong symbol of the valley.
Erected on a rock, it was commissioned in 1918 by the Alsatian industrialist Joseph Vogt from the famous Parisian sculptor Antoine Bourdelle, and represents the iconography of a Virgin and Child in a more modern version.
It was produced in Paris, shipped by rail and erected in 1923, to thank Providence for sparing Joseph Vogt's copperworks and the village of Niederbruck, of which Joseph Vogt was mayor, during the First World War.
