This contemporary art fair was established in 2007 by the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Heritage under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Since 2011, the fair has been held at the Manarat al Saadiyat galleries and the Shanghai World Expo pavilion next door, as well as recently at UNESCO sites in the Al Ain oasis and Liwa. Galleries from all over the world, conferences, and live performances attract more than 60,000 visitors each year.
