AL JAZEERA AL HAMRA
A remarkable site with coral stone houses and a fort on which you can see a mosque with an ogival minaret.
As early as the 16th century it was a port on a "red island" (Jazirat Al-Hamra), mentioned in 1756 by Baron von Kniphousen, director of the Dutch East India Company. Inhabited by the Za'ab tribe, a sea and pearl community, it was abandoned in the mid-20th century and is now a remarkable site of coral stone houses. There is a fort on top of which is a mosque with an ogival minaret. It is a candidate for inclusion in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. At the beginning of April, the village hosts the fine arts festival.
