FERME DE PERLES SUWAIDI
A cultural activity to find out all about the pearling industry, which used to drive the local economy.
This is the cultural activity par excellence that will allow you to know and understand everything about the pearl industry, which was the engine of the local economy before it disappeared in the 1920s. Created in 2005 by the grandson of one of the last pearl fishermen, Abudlla Al Suwaidi started a pearl farm before opening it to tourists. Meet in the fishermen's port of Rams to board a small wooden dhow. After crossing the mangroves and seeing some camels on the islands, we arrive at the farm located in the middle of the lagoon. We then pass on a floating pontoon where the daily life of the pearl fishermen is explained, until one of them dives in front of your eyes, dressed in a simple black cotton suit, to bring back the precious oysters that the visitors will be able to open to discover if they contain the precious Grail. Then come the explanations on the formation of pearls before being interested in the work of the pearl merchant as the way to evaluate the price of this white gold according to the size, the shape and the color. Some souvenirs can be purchased on site. For those who wish, a traditional lunch can be served, otherwise refreshments, some dates and Arabic coffee will be offered. A nice two-hour outing that allows you to understand the world of these pearls that have been fished in the Gulf since the Stone Age.
