A nature reserve in the north of the island, home to both local and migratory birds.
The Fajã da Alagoa is a natural reserve in the north of the island which shelters the local avifauna, but also many migratory birds. We note the presence of the common tern(Sterna hirundo), the grey shearwater(Calonectris diomedea borealis) and the wood pigeon(Columba palumbus azorica). The flora is also remarkable, notably the Erica azorica, an endemic heather of the Azores archipelago. Between lava fields, lake areas and high cliffs that plunge into the ocean, the place is exceptional and definitely worth a visit.
