CHUTES D'EAU DE ŠTRBAČKI BUK
Cascades and waterfalls in a 500 m-high canyon provide the starting point for rafting and kayaking excursions.
Consisting of several waterfalls and cascades, the largest of which reaches 27 m in height, Štrbački Buk ("Štrbci noise") is the most famous site in the Una National Park. It is located on the border, in a canyon whose walls rise to 500 m above sea level, next to the Una Mamea Forest Reserve in Croatia. It owes its name to the constant rushing of the Una River and its proximity to the Croatian hamlet of Donji Štrbci (population 25). From both banks, the view is magnificent. But access by car, foot or bicycle is much easier on the Bosnian-Herzegovinian side, especially through entrance No. 3 of the national park in Ćelije (other access possible through entrancesNos. 1, 2 and 6). Štrbački Buk is the starting point for many rafting or kayaking trips to Lohovo (17 km route) or Račić (18 km). Here, the more adventurous participants are invited to follow their skipper on an impressive dive into the white foam of the waterfalls. The boats go down alone and the other passengers can, if they want, pass dry through the well-developed banks. These waterfalls were formed about 40,000 years ago thanks to the particular ecosystem of the Una Valley, where a small algae promotes the production of limestone. There is a lookout point and the Buk restaurant, but there is no accommodation here. Therefore, if you want to sleep nearby, you have to go to Ćelije.
