The Passion Plays depict the last episodes of Christ's life and attract millions of visitors.
400 years ago, the plague was ravaging Europe. Vowing to end the epidemic, the people of Oberammergau vowed to perform the Passion and Death of Christ on the condition that no one would die of the plague again. The village was granted the promise and the people of Oberammergau performed their first Passion in 1634. The 42nd Passion Play 2020 had to be postponed by two years due to the Coronavirus pandemic and will take place from May to October 2022.
