A flagship event on the island of Rotuma: an impromptu whirlwind of dance and music for six weeks in December and January.
During the months of December and January, the people of Rotuma celebrate the Fara over a period of about six weeks. This event is well known and the population of Rotuma Island increases significantly during this period as the diaspora gathers around this event. Groups of dancers and singers go from house to house, often late at night or early in the morning, and perform for their audience. The inhabitants of the house then thank the improvised artists by offering them food and drink.
