MONTFORT CASTLE
century castle where you can discover rooms dedicated to contemporary art, temporary exhibitions and the House of Amethyst.
This 12th century castle, restored in the 17th and 19th centuries, dominates the Vernet-Chaméane. From the terrace, you can enjoy a beautiful panorama. Its 37 000 orange-red tiles have been superbly restored a few years ago. A legend tells that Queen Margot had a gallant adventure in this castle which she nicknamed "Mon Fort"... Romantics will be disappointed, but it turns out that the dates do not coincide! There is only one way for a normal visitor to enter the castle: visit the Amethyst House on the first floor.
