VIA FERRATA ARI
Created in 2013, this climbing route equipped with metal elements(via ferrata in Italian) offers a magnificent view of the Rugova Gorge. Classified as "moderately difficult", this itinerary is open to all without previous experience. With a length of 450 m and a difference in altitude of 100 m, it was built by the club Marimangat e Pejës ("the spiders of Peja/Peć") with the expertise of Italian mountaineers from the Trentino region. Access requires an approach walk and the excursion takes about 3 hours in total. It is advisable to do the route with a local agency or association such as Marimangat and Balkans Natural Adventure, which provide a guide and safety equipment (harnesses, helmets ...). The via ferrata "Ari" was the first one created in Kosovo. Since then, three other "railroads" have been created in the Rugova Valley. Opened in 2016, the via ferrata "Mat" is longer (510 m), but it is also classified as "medium difficult" (level 2 or B). The route "Marimangat" created in 2019 totals a course of 1 km and displays a "difficult" level (3 or C). It is famous for its "Tibetan bridge" of 40 m which crosses the gorges at a height of 60 m above the void. Finally, since 2020, the via ferrata "Shpellat" ("caves") stretches over 900 m in length, passing along nine caves that were inhabited by Serbian hermits in the 8th-12th centuries... It is also classified as "moderately difficult".
