Wildlife reserve established in 1937 with over 560 protected species in Hackberry
Established in 1937, this wildlife area is part of the U.S. National Wildlife Refuge System, which includes more than 560 protected species of wildlife in the country. Located 13 km south of Hackberry on Highway 27, it occupies a natural site consisting of marshy areas between Calcasieu and Sabine lakes. Popular activities include fishing, hunting, hiking and wildlife (especially birding) viewing. Note that this reserve is part of the Creole Nature Trail.
