HALLS OF COUHÉ
Halles in the heart of Couhé, built in the 16th century at the request of the Marquis Saint-Georges de Verac in Valence-en-Poitou
In the heart of Couhé, the Halles were built in the 16th century at the request of the Marquis Saint Georges de Verac. After 36 different owners, they were acquired by the municipality in 1955. The scene of trials, they once housed a prison. A market and fairground, they also welcomed German tanks during the Occupation. Today, in summer, the restaurant tables are located here. The building and its imposing framework rest on 56 octagonal pillars. The stone paving and side walkways are original.
