Mount Lussari with several hiking trails with a view of the town
One day in 1360, a shepherd grazing his flock on Mount Lussari discovered his animals kneeling before a bush. The shepherd, amazed, hastened to inform the parish priest of Camporosso of the statue of the Virgin and Child. The next morning, the statuette was again found on Mount Lussari. Informed, the Patriarch of Aquileia ordered the construction of a chapel on the site of the miracle. It has since been replaced by a modest 16th century church. For centuries, pilgrims of Slavic, Latin and German-speaking origin have come to worship here. But if Mount Lussari attracts visitors today, it is mainly for the view of its picture-postcard village clinging to the top of a ridge, at an altitude of 1,790 m. The village consists of a few well-to-do houses, dominated by the church, and is surrounded by the peaks of the Julian Alps. The view is enchanting in summer and winter. Mount Lussari is easily accessible thanks to the Camporosso cable car which, in a quarter of an hour, covers the 1,000 m difference in altitude. The most courageous can reach the summit by taking the Sentiero del Pellegrino which winds through the woods of Tarvisio. From the mountain there are also several hiking trails, including the Cima del Cacciatore, which reaches 2,071 meters. Mount Lussari is also famous for its ski slopes. Among these, the Di Prampero slope guarantees one of the most beautiful skiing experiences in Tarvisiano.
