SITE ARCHÉOLOGIQUE D'AMANTIA
A site perched on a rocky outcrop in Vazja, preserving the remains of the city of Amanita, including a stadium and theater.
Perched on a rocky spur, this site (Parku Arkeologjik i Amantias) shelters the remains of the city of Amanita which controlled the valley of the Vjosa up to Aulon (Vlora). Founded by settlers from Locride (central Greece) in the5th century BC, then occupied by the local Greek tribe of the Amantes, its acropolis was equipped with powerful walls in the 4th century BC. Abandoned in the Middle Ages, it still preserves beautiful remains, including a stadium and a theater (3rd century BC) well preserved.
