RUSSIAN CHAPEL

This wooden chapel dates from 1917 but has absolutely nothing to do with the Russian Revolution. It bears witness to the prowess of the construction of the Vršič pass road by Russian prisoners of war during the First World War. It has been prodigiously preserved for more than a hundred years now, even though its main building material is bark. The site was rehabilitated in the mid-2000s and is now a memorial site. It honours the diplomatic rapprochement between Slovenia and Russia.
