THE EDGE OF THE WORLD
This majestic site is very popular for its hundred-metre-high cliffs and rocky peaks...
If the access to the "Edge of the World" is free, you need an all-terrain vehicle to get there. It is not a specific site, but a long mountain range formed by the counter-fold of the fault that runs into the Red Sea. The rocky plateau abruptly breaks off and forms a long line of cliffs on the Najd plateau. This is one of the most popular trips from Riyadh and all local travel agencies offer the excursion at the end of the day. Some places are very busy on weekends and quite dirty, as many visitors leave their garbage behind. It is therefore ideal to come during the week. The site is majestic, seen from below or from above. The cliffs rise to a hundred meters high and run for kilometers. Rocky peaks draw original forms of the most photogenic. The easiest access is through the wadi coming from Sadus, which is accessible to sedans and city cars. A path allows you to climb to the top of the cliff. The last portion requires climbing in the rocks and is therefore not suitable for everyone. There have been accidents in the past and access is now limited. If you go through an agency, you will arrive at the top of the plateau, walk a bit, then have a picnic in the last light of the day, before returning to Riyadh in the evening. More and more people will tell you that the site was "better before", that it is now too crowded... But it is worth it!
