AL-QIBLATAIN MOSQUE
This al-Qiblatain mosque, which dates back to 2 A.H. (623 A.D.), was one of the first mosques built in Medina.
The al-Qiblatain mosque is one of the first mosques built in Medina and dates back to year 2 of the Hegira, i.e. 623. It was here that the Prophet is said to have received Allah's order to change the direction of prayer(qibla) towards Mecca. Until this divine order in 624, prayers were directed towards Jerusalem. The al-Qiblatain mosque has long been one of the few mosques to have two mihrabs in two different directions. In 1987, under the reign of King Fahd, the mosque was razed and rebuilt, leaving only the mihrab facing Mecca.
