A'ARIF FORTRESS
This hilltop fortress was designed to defend the town and provide shelter in the event of an attack
Atop a secluded rocky hill, A'arif Fort is the must-see landmark of the town of Hail. The great mud and clay fortress was fully restored in 2019. Built in the 17th century during the reign of the Al Ali family, it is 40 meters long and 11 meters wide. It was designed to defend the city and shelter its inhabitants in the event of an attack. Soldiers would position themselves behind the small openings punctuating the façade. The fort includes warehouses, living quarters and a mosque.
