RAJAJIL COLUMNS
Described as the "Stonehenge of Saudi Arabia", the site is famous for its stone slabs planted in groups forming circles
The site of the Columns of Rajajil questions the archaeologists. About fifty stone slabs are planted in groups, forming circles in the middle of a desert plain. The site is often referred to as the "Stonehenge of Saudi Arabia". Scientists excavated the site in 1975, extracting pieces of pottery and tools that date the buildings to 4000 B.C. It is likely that the site had a religious function and that nomads went here to perform rituals. Some columns are 3 meters high.
