TABUK FORTRESS
A fortress built in 1559 to secure the city's water supply by preserving its wells and reservoir
The Tabouk fortress dates back to 1559 and was built during the Ottoman period at the request of Sultan Soliman Al-Qanoni's administration. Its function was to secure the city's water supply by protecting its wells and reservoir. Unlike the vast majority of forts in Saudi Arabia, this one is built of stone quarried in the Hedjaz mountains. It is arranged around a large rectangular central courtyard. The fortress was completely renovated in 2013 and converted into a museum, albeit of limited interest.
