CASTLE OF RASTATT
Castle built from 1698 to 1705 for Margrave Ludwig William, featuring a collection of portraits of the Margraves of Baden.
Rastatt Castle is one of the oldest baroque residences in Germany, and one of the few not to have suffered damage during the war. It was built from 1698 to 1705 for Margrave Ludwig William of Baden-Baden, also known as the Turkenlouis because of his victories over the Turks. Several rooms are open to the public, including the Ancestors' Room, which houses a collection of portraits of the Margraves of Baden. If you wish to extend your visit, the gardens are accessible free of charge. The park is a modern version of the baroque garden of the past. It's a great opportunity to take a walk!
