CHÂTEAU DE SCHÖNBURG
This fortified castle, with a tower overlooking the Rhine, has become a museum recounting 700 years of history.
Schönburg Castle is a fortified castle overlooking the river, dating back to the 12th century. Like many buildings in the Rhine Valley, the fortress was destroyed by French troops in 1689, but rebuilt in 1885 to its original appearance. From April to October, visitors can climb the castle tower (Turnmuseum auf Schönburg). From there, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Rhine. The site has been converted into a museum and tells 700 years of history. It's also worth noting that the castle gave its name to the Schönburger grape variety!
