ABBAYE DE BANZ
A baroque abbey in Bad Staffelstein.
Banz Abbey is a former Benedictine monastery, built on the foundations of a medieval fortress that dominated the banks of the Main. While the origins of the institution date back to the 11th century, the architectural complex dates from the 18th century, when the abbey was at its peak. The church of St. Denis and St. Peter, whose rather sober façade conceals a richly ornamented interior, is a masterpiece of German Baroque. Secularized in 1803, the abbey now houses a training center of the Hanns-Seidel Foundation.
